“WORLD KNOWLEDGE. The encyclopaedia from Diderot to Hans Erni to the present day.” The aim of the encyclopaedia was to summarise all the knowledge known at the time in a multi-volume reference work. It can be regarded as the forerunner of the www and today’s storage of enormous amounts of data.The 18th century encyclopaedia and the encyclopaedia illustrated by Hans Erni as well as the originals of the illustrations will be shown together with contemporary works of art that deal with the idea of a comprehensive collection of knowledge. Contemporary work by Ken Aptekar, Ester Bättig, Anton Egloff, Marcel Glanzmann, Anne Guttormsen Fraser, Rut Himmelsbach, Rosa Lachenmeier, Charles Moser, Marcel Scheible, Henrik Spohler, Peter Wüthrich, Anna Sabina Zürrer, Pidi Zumstein und Marc Véron.
